| The mission of Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is to provide youth with a fun, residential camp experience under the guidance of positive role models that emphasize community building, positive social interactions, environmental awareness and skill building. The Cloverbuds Day Camp Counselor is accountable for the initial supervision of the young day campers ages 5—7. It is the job of the Cloverbuds Day Camp Counselor to ensure the camper is enjoying and participating in the programs offered. The Cloverbuds Day Camp Counselor lives locally, off the camp property, unless otherwise arranged. The Cloverbuds Day Camp Counselor will stay on camp on Thursday nights for the sleep over.|
The summer camp season includes 1 week of pre-camp staff training and 6 weeks of residential camp that run from Sunday morning to Friday evening each week. Specific dates are July 9 – August 18, 2017. Cloverbuds Day Camp Staff will assist in closing of all Cloverbud areas during the August 18-20th weekend.
III. Specific Responsibilities Assist in the direction, supervision and organization of Cloverbud Day Campers in their camper group from 7:45am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday and stayover on camp Thursday nights to supervise Cloverbuds sleepover.
Assume responsibility for leadership and guidance of those campers in daily living, with special attention to: personal hygiene and safety, camper participation in all-camp activities, and meal time behavior and habits
Assist in program areas such as the pool, nature, arts and crafts, sports and outdoor adventures as directed
Assume responsibility for interpreting the rules, policies, and traditions of the camp to the camper
Serve as a positive role model in language, appearance, and behavior
Assume responsibility for health and welfare of campers in his/her bunk
Support and embrace diversity in all interactions with campers, other staff members, volunteers and parents. Implement programs that engage diverse backgrounds, interests and learning styles.
Organize, plan, and lead camp activities and programs
Other duties may be assigned as required
IV. Essential Functions Be physically able to accompany the campers to any of the camp activities
Assure campers are properly supervised at all times and within the camper to counselor ratio as director by the New York State Department of Health.
Apply basic positive youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, and involvement and empowerment of youth.
Have visual ability to recognize hazards in the camp setting as well as physical symptoms of camper injury or illness
Have auditory ability to respond appropriately to hazards and any camper concerns
Be able to observe camper behavior in daily camp life, to respond verbally to health and safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with any improper behavior
V. Qualifications 18 years of age or older
Experience as a camper or working with children
Current Lifeguard certification desired
CPR for the Professional Rescuer and/or First Aid Responding to Emergencies desired
Ability to work with peers
Ability to plan and lead programs
